Botox for Jawline Contouring & Masseter Reduction
Named for the famed Egyptian queen Nefertiti, the Nefertiti Lift is a non-surgical technique used to contour a patient’s jawline, soften the jowls, and reduce the masseter muscle. As we age, the platysmal bands in our necks shorten and tend to pull on our jawlines. This can cause issues with the appearance of the neck and jawline, giving a far more pronounced appearance of the “jowls”.
How the Nefertiti Lift Works?
In order to help reduce these issues in the neck muscles, doctors will use neuromodulators such as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin, however Botox is most common. By using a neuromodulator, like Botox, in this way, we can temporarily paralyze the horizontal muscles in the neck, lengthening the bands in the neck and improving the appearance of the neck and the jawline together.
In order to achieve this, we will strategically place multiple injections of Botox into the platysmal bands, the horizontal bands of muscle along the neck. This will help to both thin the face, and lengthen the neck. Providing an all together more aesthetic appearance. Once these muscles are “relaxed”, they naturally pull in the jowls.
For those patients with larger, more wide, strong jaws, the appearance of the jaw can be reduced, also using Botox or other neuromodulators. Now these muscles can become very strong in some individuals; they are strengthened by the most normal of movements like talking, chewing, grinding teeth. The addition of the Botox injections relaxes the masseter muscle enough to lessen the width of the jaw, especially beneficial for women, it provides a far softer, more feminine look and overall structure.
When the upper neck and jawline area are injected using Botox, it creates an upward migration of the skin. This is the goal of Nefertiti Lift, as this upward movement gives patients a sharp, tighter jawline with uplifted corners of the mouth.
How long does it take?
The procedure is minimally-invasive, only involving a few strategically placed injections. This makes it fairly quick, with most procedures being completed in 20-30 minutes. However, this is also dependent upon the level of correction needed, and the amount of Botox desired.
Side Effects or Downtime?
Some patients may experience minor bruising, although fairly uncommon, it will generally fade within a day or two. Again, bruising is unlikely, but can always occur.
